Participates in physical activities, providing modeling and encouragement for children

DEFINITIONS

Teachers support physical development by actively joining in movement activities and modeling how to use their bodies. By running, jumping, dancing, climbing, or using tools alongside children, teachers show how to move safely and confidently. Their playful involvement and encouragement help children build motor skills and enjoy being active.

In this exemplar video, a teacher is modeling how to use play dough with toddlers while incorporating a simple song. Notice how the teacher uses clear, slow motions, demonstrating actions like roll, pound, poke, pat, and squeeze and repeats these steps so toddlers can imitate. This is a clear example of how the teacher is participating in physical activities with children.
