COMPETENCY STATEMENT

Ensures classrooms have materials (music, books, toys, posters, graphics) that are sensitive to and represent the cultural diversity of the program

DEFINITIONS

A classroom environment should reflect the children it serves. Teachers ensure that materials such as music, books, toys, posters, and graphics are sensitive to and reflect the children, families, languages, and communities served by the program. When children see themselves and their peers reflected in the classroom, they can connect classroom learning to familiar experiences and practice respect for others.
