Resource Description:

In this exemplar video, a teacher and toddler explore the playground using a magnifying glass during outdoor play. Notice how the teacher asks questions such as, “What is this?” and “What do you think we can find?” while encouraging the child to investigate the mulch and search for worms. The teacher introduces new vocabulary and concepts by explaining, “It’s for looking through,” and demonstrating how the magnifying glass makes objects appear bigger. The teacher uses hands-on exploration and conversation to support communication and language development, an example of using a variety of age-appropriate techniques consistent with state early learning guidelines to support communication and language development.
