The content and structure of the competencies can be thought of as a framework for assessing knowledge and skills, guiding training and professional development opportunities, and monitoring progress. This version of the training was designed for use by early childhood practitioners.

In this course series, you will learn about the professional competencies found in the Texas Core Competencies for Early Childhood Practitioners. English Language Learners: Culture, Language, Instruction
English Language Learners: Culture, Language, Instruction explores how culture shapes children’s learning and oral language development, introduces stages of language development and second language acquisition, and highlights evidence-based instructional strategies teachers can use to support ELLs in early childhood classrooms.
Pre-Kindergarten Response to Intervention
Pre-Kindergarten Response to Intervention focuses on designing, creating, and managing warm, structured classroom environments where children develop a love of learning, learn to manage their behavior, and build independence in work and play.
Understanding Special Needs
Understanding Special Needs focuses on understanding and supporting children with special needs who struggle with behavior and attention regulation, social and emotional responses, and receptive and expressive language development.

Partnering with Families and Promoting Positive Communication covers strategies and resources that help teachers and program leaders build strong home-school partnerships, promote positive communication, and reduce barriers to meaningful family engagement.
Domain 2: Emergent Literacy Language and Communication
Emergent Literacy Language and Communication introduces Domain 2 of the 2022 Texas Prekindergarten Guidelines, including end-of-year outcomes and instructional strategies that help prekindergarten teachers support children’s emergent literacy, language, and communication development.
