Models appropriate use and care of materials.

DEFINITIONS

Teachers show children how to use classroom materials safely and respectfully. By modeling how to clean up, share, and handle items gently, teachers help children learn responsibility and respect for their environment. This builds good habits and keeps the classroom organized and safe.

In this exemplar video, a teacher models how to gently touch the flowers. Notice how she first uses her right hand to show students how to touch the bouquet flowers with gentle hands and then encouages them to try themselves- an example of modeling the appropriate use and care of materials.

Age Group: Pre-K

This activity will support preschool teachers with modeling how to use and care for a Take-Home Math Journal. The teacher will show the materials, explain how to use the book and manipulatives, and demonstrate how to write or draw in the journal. The teacher will also set expectations for returning the materials and sharing experiences with classmates.
