Provides opportunities for children to make appropriate choices (choosing between play activities, foods, etc.)

DEFINITIONS

Teachers plans activities in which children are offered simple choices and are able to explore and try things for themselves.

In this exemplar video, a teacher is in the classroom playing with an infant. Notice how the teacher soothes the baby by offering two choices–an example of providing opportunities for children to make appropriate choices.

In this exemplar video, a teacher it outside with toddlers on a hot day. Notice how the teacher wants the children to stay hydrated and let’s them decide if they want to drink water now or later, helping them to practice making choices within reasonable limits–an example of providing opportunities for children to make appropriate choices.
