COMPETENCY STATEMENT

Responds promptly and sensitively to children’s cognitive and affective signals (acknowledges and expands on children’s attempts at communication, play, and expression of needs.)

DEFINITIONS

Teachers can build strong supportive relationships with children through responding thoughtfully to children's signals including recognizing, acknowledging, and encouraging attempts at communication and emotional expression. Teachers should aim to respond quicky and regularly, noticing and validating children's cues and make sure to display attentiveness and care over their needs.
