COMPETENCY STATEMENT

Engages in thinking aloud and in conversations to support the development of self-concept skills (likes/ dislikes, feelings, one’s own body and thoughts)

DEFINITIONS

Teachers help children understand themselves by talking about their own thoughts, feelings, likes, and dislikes. This shows children how to think about who they are and how they feel. It also encourages children to share their own ideas and feelings.

In this video, the teacher reads a book about feelings and helps children relate the character’s emotions to their own experiences. She asks questions, labels emotions, and reassures children that all feelings are okay. This supports emotional understanding and self-awareness.
