In this exemplar video, a teacher comforts a child and gently says, ‘We have to be careful so we don’t hurt ourselves’ as the child comes out from under the table. Notice how the teacher uses calm, positive language—an example of speaking to children in a supportive way while using interest areas to encourage safe and mindful play.
In this video, the ECE explains to the child that they need to clean up the toys because if they don’t, they could slip and fall and hurt themselves when crawling or walking around. This provides the child with a logical consequence for not cleaning up in the classroom, and encourages her to pick up the toys.
In this exemplar video, a teacher shows a child how to safely shake a rattle and explains that being careful helps us not get hurt. Notice how the teacher talks about logical consequences—an example of using interest areas to support safe play.
